Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Ndegwa has assured Olessos residents that all the police officers serving at Olessos police station in Nandi County will be transferred with immediate effect. Addressing the public during the security meeting held in the area on Friday following the Thursday shooting incident, Ndegwa cited that the government has resolved to move all the officers from the police station due to public demand and urged residents to be patient. He regretted the ugly incident, apologizing on behalf of the government and affirmed that the officer in question has already been arrested and interdicted.
On the other hand, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya urged the residents and the public at large to respect the law and work in partnership with the security teams without fearing them.
Political leaders from Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties led by Governors Stephen Sang and Jackson Mandago and MPs complained about the rampant police brutality in the region, saying hey won’t relent until the culpable officers are brought to book.
They expressed their support to the fact that the IG had given assurances that the culprits have already been arrested and will face the wrath of the law. In a period of two months, five people have died in Nandi at the hands of police officers, with the most notable incident happening at Tabolwa on the Nandi/Kakamega border.
