Normal learning on the first day of third term failed to resume at Alomodoi primary school in Teso south sub county, Busia County after parents held a demonstration in the school demanding for immediate transfer of the school head teacher Mr. Patrick Omanyo Opilit.
The over fifty parents stormed the school Monday morning and closed the school gate locking out teachers and pupils.
They complained of prolonged poor performance, teachers involving in excess consumption of alcohol in the village and a large number of female teachers going for maternity leave, “The teachers led by the head teacher Mr. Patrick Omanyo Opilit have greatly contributed to poor performance of the school. A good number of teachers in the school go to the village to take alcohol at the time they are supposed to be in class teaching. Many female teachers are also given maternity leave leaving our children unattended to.”
Area chief Dennis Opemi Moria accompanied by police officers rushed to the school and managed to contain the irate parents as he promised to follow up the matter with relevant offices and offer a lasting solution, “I urge them to be calm as I take up the matter and try to get a solution together with education office.
The head teacher could not be reached for comment.
