A family in Ang’ololo village, Amagoro location in Teso North Sub County survived death narrowly, when an electricity utility pole fell on their house.
Mr. Robert Murega, a crop officer, said he was in the house at 7.45pm on Saturday, when he had a loud bang; when I rushed out I found an electric pole lying on the roof of my house.
“Lucky for us the live wires did not touch the iron sheet lest it could be another story for me, my family and five neighbors who share the same power pole,” he said.
Mr Murega said despite making several calls since the incident, Kenya Power personnel from Busia Town had not responded to his distress call over 15 hours later.
The crop officer said he alerted the power firm over two months ago to relocate the pole which was three metres from his house, when he noticed the pole which has been eaten by ants, adding that he also alerted them of the rotting pole which needed urgent replacement.
He said the pole had damaged his house and wondered who will undertake the repairs since it was not his mistake but that of the power company.
Mr Murega said the same scenario occurred at the residence of former Deputy Secretary in the Office of the President Mr Ben Akwara barely two months ago, with the power men taking their sweet time before they responded after over two days.
