Peter Oscar Nabulindo, the ANC candidate in Matungu by-elections was declared the new MP-elect for Matungu constituency on March 5, 2021.
Results released by the Constituency Returning Officer John Kirui Kiplangat showed that Mr. Nabulindo led in the Matungu by-election with a total of 14,257 ahead of ODM’s David Were who managed 10,565 votes.
UDA’s Alex Lanya came third with 5,513 while Bernard Wakoli, an independent candidate recorded 1,536 votes.
Mr. Kirui led other IEBC officials in verifying the tallying forms before they announced the final and official results.
Mr. Nabulindo was accompanied at the tallying center by Lugari MP Ayub Savula and Titus Khamala of Lurambi.
ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi joined Mr. Nabulindo in celebrating the astounding victory and led hundreds of Mr. Nabulindo supporters to move to the MP-elect’s home at Namalasire village.
The seat attracted 15 aspirants with nine running as independent candidates.
The late MP Justus Murunga’s wife Christabel Amunga and son Eugene Ambwere contested separately as independent candidates.
Ms. Amunga managed 427 votes while Ambwere recorded 94 votes only.
Former CDF chairman Athman Wangara garnered 248 votes, Godfrey Ouma Faida, 257 and Lutta Kasamani 143.
Mr. Paul Achayo got 139, Gregory Atoko 115, Lutta Wilberforce 94, Anzelimo Kongoti, who announced his withdrawal from the race to support Mr. Lanya got 41, and Borry Nectus 18.
