The Ministry of Devolution and Planning has been accused of mismanaging Ksh 21 billion meant to cater for emergencies and drought in the country. Speaking after inspecting projects launched by Vihiga county government in Luanda Sub County, the Executive Member in the Ministry of Agriculture Nixon Amendi said the funds meant to handle the drought situation that has rocked many parts of the country have been mismanaged.
He said many Kenyans are losing their lives due to the severe drought that has rocked many parts of the country while some cartels in the Ministry are swindling the money meant to curb the situation. He said that is a lot of money which should be used to provide food and water to the Kenyans living in the affected areas.
He said when these funds are utilized, it’s only in some parts of this country, while other affected areas are left out.
“We know these funds don’t reach all affected areas but there are some selected parts that benefit more than others,” said Amendi, a move he rubbished saying every affected Kenyan has a right to benefit from the kitty.
He said Vihiga is one of the counties that has been affected by the drought and there is a shortage of food, something he said should be dealt with.
“Even in this county, we have residents who cannot afford a meal because of the drought that is ongoing and we urge the national government to work closely with us to identify those affected so that they benefit from this programme,” Amendi said.
The county has been hit with a shortage of water and residents now have resorted to buying the commodity from vendors in the affected areas within the County.
