Busia Senator Amos Wako has said his burning ambition is to see Busia County become a case study in Kenya by bringing all the people together. Amos Wako who traversed the County at the weekend, attending three functions in Nambale, Busia and Teso North, told leaders to undertake leading roles by embracing humility in all their deeds.
Speaking at the Busia Catholic Church accompanied by Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, Wako vilified leaders who were trying to divide residents of the county along ethnic and tribal lines, even as elections draw closer. “People who try to create tension among communities have no place in modern Kenya. We should embrace humility and leave wananchi to decide at the ballot whom they want,” he said.
At Katakwa Cathedral during consecration of Bishop John Okude, Wako called on churches to partner with the County Government to spur economic development and help in oversight roles. “Two major evils bedeviling Kenya are tribalism and ethnicity, and corruption. Churches should also intervene so that all tribes can live in peace,” he said.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said he has good working relations with majority of Busia leaders, meant to help push the County’s agenda forward. “We shall not backtrack in our bid to realize the dreams of the Busia people. The youths are now enjoying stadium facilities to nurture their talents. Aspirants for various seats are now at liberty to sell their agenda to the people across the County without any fear of intimidation. The electorate will decide our destiny at the ballot,” he said.
Ojaamong said that his party position is known and that he is in ODM to stay, “I wish you people in Jubilee well in your new outfit,” he said.
