An administrator with the county government of Kakamega has gone missing under unclear circumstance in what is suspected to be kidnapping incident.
Joyce Mukhanya Mwofula, who is the Community Administrator of Mbajo Community Area in Chekalini ward Lugari sub county went missing on Monday night from her home at Bondeni village in Chekalini location.
Mukhanya who had just resumed her administration duty after a three months maternity leave left behind her 3 months old baby who was found alone in the house at 5 am on Tuesday morning after attracting attention of the farmhand.
Speaking to West Media, Mukhanya’s father Mzee Samson Mwofula Toywa recalled his daughter’s last movements before he received the news on her disappearance.
He said on Monday morning, the daughter, who is married about two kilometers away, passed by the home where she left her two elder children while she went to attend a meeting at Lumakanda sub county offices.
After the meeting she returned and she informed him that she had been assigned a duty at Kipkaren market. She then took the children to school at Webuye DEB primary school, whey they are boarding pupils.
At about 7:30 she called informing him that she had travelled safely and she was back at home. This was the last communication Mzee Toywa had with his beloved daughter before he received information from one of her colleagues on Tuesday at about 9 am telling him that she was missing.
He said when he wanted to find out more from her home, her parent in-laws told him that their farmhand had just found the baby crying inside the house with the door open at about 5 am and they thought maybe she had gone to work and left the baby alone because her maid commutes from her home.
However, Mzee Toywa is suspicious something fishy might have happened to his daughter. He said it’s so strange after hearing the crying baby alone in the house no step was taken to try and find the mother who has never left the compound at such times for work since she was employed in 2018.
“In fact I am the one who called her husband who had traveled to Nairobi and informed him of the incident,” said Mr. Toywa adding that he doesn’t think there was any disagreement between his daughter and her husband saying she always shared with him whenever there was a problem and she could have done so when she was at home.
Everything was found in the house with her phone put on the table but the sim card had been removed and separately placed.
It is suspected that someone well known to her might have knocked on her door at night and identfied himself or herself in order for her to open the door before she was kidnapped
Mzee Toywa said he reported the incident at Chekalini police post and Lumakanda police station. Officers from criminal investigation department led by Lugari sub county criminal investigation officer Kennedy Limela have launched investigations into the incident.
