An elderly woman committed suicide by hanging herself on Wednesday night at Mukanga trading centre, Kongoni location in Likuyani sub county.
Confirming the incident, Kongoni sub location assistant chief Martin Kwenyi said the body of Roseline Nanjala was found by neighbours dangling from the rooftop of her rented house at about 11 pm.
He said neighbours got concerned after failing to see her and when one of them went to check what had befallen her she was shocked to find the body in her house which had not been locked from inside.
According to Kwenyi, though the exact reason behind Nanjala’s cruel move is not yet not known, it is suspected she took the action out of stress.
He said the deceased who always looked stressed has been in regular domestic conflicts with her husband who is a sentinel at St. Teresa’s Mukunga primary school.
Police officers from Matunda station removed the body and took it to Kitale mortuary as they launched investigation into the incident.
Kwenyi used the opportunity to urged couples to look for amicable ways of solving domestic differences instead of resorting to such cruelty.
The incident follows a similar one where a 62-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself due to depression at Munyama village, Lumakanda location in the neighbouring Lugari sub county.
