The Kenya National Private Security Workers Union Secretary General Isaac Andabwa has launched an anti-jigger campaign aimed at eradicating the menace in Lugari Sub County.
Speaking during the launch at Mahemas primary school in Lugari ward, Andabwa expressed his disappointment with the huge number of pupils ravaged by the jiggers
“It’s worrying to establish that in the 21st century a large population of residents was still affected by jiggers,” said Andabwa adding that he was determined to eradicate the menace.
Besides removing the pests from their toes, he said health officers from his team will also provide free medical care and education to the residents on how to prevent the menace by maintaining cleanliness in their households.
The SG dismissed traditional stereotypes to the effect that jigger attacks were as a result of curses and advised the residents to ensure maximum public and domestic sanitation to control their further spread.
Over 150 pupils in the school had jiggers removed as he promised to ensure the exercise goes on in the affected areas within the sub county whereby his team will continue with the campaign by treating those infested and giving them advice on how to stay free from jiggers.
“After Mahemas the team will go to Lwanda Lugari, Marula and other affected areas,” said Andabwa.
