Anxiety remained high among teachers, students and parents of St. Thomas Nambale High schools after the KCSE results of 2015 were withheld by the examining body, KNEC.
The school emerged the academic giant in Busia County after topping in 2013 and 2014 KCSE exams displacing Butula boys which is the Boys National school in the county.
The school had high hopes of performing much better this year and the school principal Solomon Sisuma made the assurance before Deputy President William Ruto last year during a harambee drive at the school to construct additional hostels.
But KNEC’s move to withhold the results is likely to dent a blow to the entire school.
Mr. Sisuma who appeared disturbed when we visited the school on Thursday afternoon said they were yet to be told by KNEC why the results were being withheld,
“Right now I cannot give any comment because we are yet to told why the results have not been released.” He said.
This comes as church leaders and parents from Busia county condemn KNEC’s move to cancel results of some five thousand candidates countrywide due to exam irregularities.
Anglican church of Kenya Nambale Diocese Bishop Dr. Robert Magina said KNEC should not punish innocent students and instead bear the responsibility of any exam malpractice,
“We were told and we even saw exam materials on media prior to the exam day. How then do we punish candidates for the same?” he posed.
Speaking to West Media in his diocesan office shortly after the release of the results, Dr. Bishop Magina said it’s not fair to mistreat Kenyan students when there are other people who should be held responsible.
His remarks were echoed by parents across the county who lamented that KNEC was putting them and their children on the receiving end,
“What is the work of KNEC if not safeguarding the exams? And if the exams were leaked days before they were done then who is to blame?” a parent in Busia asked.
They added that they have spend a lot of money educating their children and expressed their fear that the money is likely to be wasted away by KNEC cancelling the results.
