Kenyans are anxiously waiting for the release of the Building Bridges Initiative Report to President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Head of State will receive the report and later it will be availed to Kenyans to read it themselves. Already, the possible contents of the report have been discussed in different quarters, including recommendations on streamlining the executive and possible creation of the Prime Minister post.
The on Wednesday, President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga will release it at the Bomas of Kenya, setting it up for public discussion. Representatives from all the 47 Counties have been invited to the consultative meeting. However, the BBI report has been overshadowed by a much critical need in West Pokot, after at least 52 people lost their lives after early Saturday landslides, with numbers expected to rise
The crisis seems to be increasing with each passing day due to the weather rendering transport close to impossible. At least 500 families have been affected, with house sand animals also swept away. On Monday, Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa were forced to remain in Eldoret citing poor weather, although Deputy President William Ruto made his way to Kapenguria Referral Hospital to see the victims. Kenyans have expressed their distaste with the BBI report gaining more prominence than the West Pokot victims.
