James Obunde has been installed as the New ArchBishop for Church of God East Africa.
Speaking at the event that took place at the Church Headquarters at Kima in Vihiga County, the newly sworn-in Archbishop said he is ready to take the mantle and lead the church in the right direction.
Obunde took over from Byrum Makokha who led the Church for more than 50 years but died last year. He reiterated the need for consultation and good leadership as a tool to steer the church in the right direction.
Speaking at the event Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said he had dispelled fear that there could be wrangles in the leadership of the church after the demise of the former archbishop, but thanked the General Assembly of the Church for appointing James Obunde to take over as new leader of the Church, the process he said was carried out peacefully, sentiments that were echoed by Kakamega Women representative Elsea Muhanda.
“We had feared the process could be chaotic, but we thank the General Assembly who deed a good job and the transition has been peaceful,” He said.
Muhanda encouraged the Church leadership to work together and make sure the church remained united.
Nominated Member of Parliament Godfrey Osotsi said the former archbishop stirred the church to greater heights and advised the newly appointed archbishop to emulate him.
