The Athletics Kenya (AK) president Mr. Jackson Tuwei has revealed that the institution is going to set up a small task force committee to look into the plight and challenges facing the Athletes in the country.
Speaking at Kapnyemisa village in Lelmokwo/Ngechek ward in Nandi during the final send off of the slain 10 KM World record holder Agnes Tirop, Tuwei cited that it has come to their attention that many athletes were suffering silently in the hands of their partners, thus as Athletics Kenya team will form the committee to look into these challenges and establish a possible solution.
Tuwei asked athletes in such situations to open up and speak out so as to be assisted saying suffering silently will cost them as it is good to share the problem in order to get assistance.
He said that the slain athlete was a hardworking lady who had just rose up in her career and was doing well as she had represented the country in many events around the globe and as Athletics Kenya will miss her so much.
The AK president revealed that in memory of the athlete, the AK will honor her by organizing the Agnes Tirop memorial Tour in Eldoret Town as a way of remembering her tremendous achievements in the world of athletics.
“In memory of the fallen heroin, we will organize for a memorial tour in Eldoret town to remember her.” Tuwei added.
Late Agnes Tirop was found murdered in her house at Iten by the suspected lover who is currently in police custody assisting the police with investigations and is the family’s prayer that justice prevails.
Political leaders present at the funeral led by Nandi governor Stephen Sang, Nandi senator Samson Cherargey, Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Kapseret MP Oscah Sudi among many other leaders criticized the government for not honoring athletes despite their exemplary performance in athletics world, thus reminded the government that it is high time they pull up their socks.
They cited that athletes play a major role in raising the Kenyan flag high in international countries thus should be recognized and honored by the government for their wonderful performances.
