It is a relief to the livestock farmers in Lugari Sub County following completion of renovation and officially reopening of Bahati cattle dip in Lumakanda ward which had been closed for several years.
Addressing residents when he donated acaricide and officiated the reopening ceremony held at the facility, Lugari parliamentary candidate on an ANC ticket Alex Atingo who sponsored the renovation work encouraged them to observe best livestock practices in order to realize increased animal production.
Atingo regretted that despite efforts being made by farmers in the constituency to embrace dairy farming, some of them were losing their animals to tick borne diseases such as East Coast Fever (ECF), Anaplasmosis and Tripanosomiasis thus his intervention to renovate the dip and donate acaricide to help them effectively control ticks to reduce animal diseases and foster quality production.
He encouraged farmers to make proper use of the facility by dipping their animals regularly to curb tick borne diseases.
Promising to support more cattle dips in the area, Atingo said over 60 percent of the Sub County residents depend on livestock farming for their livelihood hence there is need to give much consideration to the important sector.
“ I am doing this in my personal capacity so that livestock production is boosted in Lugari Sub County because I really value the sector,” said Atingo.
He urged the dip management committee to allow farmers from the area to plunge their animals without any charges.
