Nairobi City Stars’ forward Jimmy Bageya has been selected as the SJAK – SportPesa player for the month of October.
He scooped the individual accolade after a fine run in the month of October that saw him score two crucial goals against KCB and Ushuru as City evaded the chop.
His goal against Ushuru was a fine header and it helped City secure their place in the top flight league next season.
And for his good performance, the Ugandan, who scored five goals in the second leg as City survived the chop, took home Ksh. 50,000, a 42-inch LG –TV set and a personalized trophy.
He beat Gor Mahia hot-shot Michael Olunga and Bandari’s David King’atua with Both Olunga and Bageya garnering 16 votes and the panel forced to go for the tie breaker where Bageya garnered four votes against Olunga’s three to bag the award, the first for a Nairobi City Stars player.
The elated striker took time to hail his team mates for the good run after being presented with his award at the Hope Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m very happy because to win this award means that I worked hard. I thank God and my teammates, who have worked hard and have been very supportive. He said.
“I wanted to ensure that we did not fall to relegation and I’m happy that we attained the dream.” Bageya added.
Other nominees for the award were Nairobi City Stars’ Ebrimah and AFC Leopards midfielder Bernard Mang’oli
