Residents of Saria village in Chebyuk ward, of Mt Elgon constituency, are living in fear after armed bandits descended on their village, shot four men and killed a total of ten cows, an incident that has shocked many.
According to residents, the bandits attacked at around10 pm on Sunday night beginning at David Kirui’s home whom they shot dead. They then moved to Jamin Chepyietor’s house who lives a few meters away and shot him then they killed his six cows before moving to other two homes.
David Kirui’s widow Salome says she managed to escape after the gang broke into their house and hid in the bushes only to return and find her dead husband an hour later saying she has been left helpless with her nine children.
Area residents called upon the government to consider employing home guards whom they say will be handy in dealing with the attackers as the police have failed in their duties.
They disclosed that they are living in fear despite having a GSU camp, KDF camp and the administration police whom they say have not positively responded whenever they are attacked, an issue that has prompted their request for home guards.
The administration and political leaders have been on the forefront to condemn the attacks and also call for the residents to divulge any important information that may lead to the curbing of the spontaneous attacks that have left many children orphans.
