A 35-year-old bar maid has been raped and killed by unknown people at Ogalo market along the Busia-Kakamega border. The body of Violet Nabwire from Tingolo village in Butula sub county, Busia County was found on Friday morning in a thicket near the road a few meters from the bar where she works. She was half naked with multiple injuries on her face.
Her neighbours said she didn’t return from work at 11 pm as usual before they got information in the morning that she was dead. “At around midnight we heard her child crying. She had looked for her in the house. After sometime she kept quiet until 5am when she started crying again. In the morning we went to her house and found it still locked and we had to break it to remove the baby who was still inside.”
The locals have decried escalating cases of women who are raped and killed and now want the police to move in and launch investigation to unmask the perpetrators. “This is not the first time a woman is being raped and killed in this area. Sometime back a girl was defiled and killed in the same area. We are afraid of these vices and we call on the police to help us before we loose more people.”
Her body was removed from the scene by Matungu police officers who have launched investigations.
The incident has occurred a few days after a middle aged woman was raped by a boda boda operator at Murunba market last Sunday.
The woman alighted a bus from Nairobi with her 5-year-old child at midnight and boarded the motorbike to them home in Bumutiru but upon reaching Murunba, the operator stopped and raped her as her child watched, threatening to kill them with a knife he had if they raised alarm.
