Nandi leaders led by the Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey have revealed that the constitutional amendments through the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) Bill have been politicized with some section of leaders hindering other legislators from contributing their views to a better document.
The leaders who spoke at a function in Chesumei constituency including the Members of parliament and MCA’s from the region said the aim of the BBI is meant to benefit the politicians who rely on endorsements but not the ordinary citizen.
“The citizens will suffer a lot in managing the burden of almost six hundred legislators proposed by the document thus is really a burden to the ordinary mwananchi entitled to paying taxes,” they said.
They cited that as leaders from Nandi they are in agreement with some sections of the Bill but what is affecting the common mwananchi negatively should be revisited and amended.
The legislators lauded the efforts of the county assembly of Nandi for rejecting the bill saying they voiced the position of electorates without threats from the party leadership thus as MP’s, will also stand firm in the National assembly on their democratic rights once the Bill is presented to the house.
So far, 42 county assemblies endorsed the BBI Bill, with only Nandi and Baringo rejecting it.
