Beatrice Chebet won the women’s 10,000 meters finals and bagged a second gold medal for Kenya at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Kenyan athletic champion clocked 30:43.25 to win the race ahead of Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands and Italy’s Nadia Battocletti.
Chebet has now become the first Kenyan woman to win a gold medal in the 10,000metres challenge.
Chebet’s win also hands Kenya the second gold medal in Paris.
Chebet headed into the race as the favourite after winning the 5,000m but was facing stiff competition from Sifan Hassan and Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia. She is also the world record holder in the distance, per World Athletics.
In the end, she outsprinted Italy Batocletti to become the first Kenyan athlete to win two gold medals in the same Olympic Games. Hassan clinched her second medal in Paris after finishing third in 30:44.12.
