The launch of the second phase of the Digital Learning Programme kicked off in Vihiga County at Essongolo Primary school in Luanda Sub County. The School received over a hundred tablets in the ongoing disbursements of the gadgets to Schools across the Country. The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, while launching the project said the Government is determined to make sure Kenyan pupils are as competitive as other students globally in terms of ICT.
“The Government has plans to ensure technology takes center stage in the education system in the Kenya and make pupils in the Country equally competitive as other kids in the other parts of the World,” said Bett. The Cabinet Secretary noted that such policies are going to transform learning in the Country completely.
“The world is now a small village and the government wants every Kenyan to be well-versed technologically to be on the required level with other countries socially and economically,” said Bett.
The Cabinet Secretary said the programme has helped accelerate power connectivity to most of the schools across the country.
Already 95% of schools in the country are connected to power and a few remaining and have received these gadgets, we will also use solar panels to ensure the program is a success,” said Bett. This comes after the inaugural launch at St Francis Hambale Primary school where over one hundred and two tablets were issued. The project is expected to benefit 174,179 Standard One pupils in 454 primary schools in the County.
