Nanga self-help group comprising of Kamkuywa bicycle operators are a happy lot after they acquired a certificate of registration to help them open a savings account in a bank.
The savings account they say will also enable them to apply for loans from the county and national government to start up other development projects.
Speaking after issuing the certificate of registration by the social services department, Kamkuywa Member of the County assembly Moses Opicho said the bicycle riders had for a long time been neglected by many.
Mr. Opicho said he aims to empower them to be financially stable through savings and starting up of projects.

He, however, called upon them to be cooperative and disciplined in their way of operations saying they have to deny themselves some comfort and be saving a certain amount of money on a daily basis as a way of ensuring they save enough.
“Early planning is important if you want to be successful in anything you do and I am willing to be by your side always to ensure your plans are successful,” he said
He also called upon those with no identity cards to show up and be helped to acquire the vital document saying it will help them participate in the forthcoming general election by electing leaders they want.
Opicho gave out 5,000 shillings to the group and also promised to double the amount after three months to the amount they would have contributed to the account saying they only have to be disciplined so as to be successful.
The group chairman Gabriel Masika applauded the efforts of the area MCA saying his empowerment initiative will go a long way to help them be independent and also expand their business.
He said as a group they are aiming to save enough and purchase motorbikes and also have hopes of purchasing a car in future.
He further disclosed that the plan of the MCA to have some members of the group be trained as drivers is welcomed saying they have to acquire the skills as early as possible as they may be hired for the job elsewhere and called upon the group members to be disciplined.
However, he called upon other leaders to follow in the footsteps of their MCA and empower the bicycles bodaboda operators saying they also have a duty in building the economy of the country.
