Senate Speaker Kenneth Makelo Lusaka has got a back up for his gubernatorial bid as a section of Tachoni elders referred to as Tachoni Cultural Society (TACUSO) have vowed to support his election as the third governor of Bungoma County to succeed the current regime.
Addressing the press after having a daylong meeting at a certain restaurant in Mihuu ward in Webuye East Constituency led by their chair Patrick Sitati Lichuma said the decision to back Lusaka was informed by lack of development in the Constituency even after the community supported the current regime for they voted for the current Governor as a block in 2017.
Lichuma added that even after having a Deputy Governor from the Tachoni community, the Constituency has lagged behind in terms of development saying that what can be witnessed is individual benefits from some section of people who have benefited a lot in the current regime at the expense of the larger Tachoni community.
“We really supported the current regime of Governor Wycliffe Wangamati in the last general election but we have never seen meaningful development apart from some individuals who have benefited and therefore we have decided to support Lusaka but we got a raw deal,” said Lichuma.
He said the committee visited and had a meeting with the Speaker and agreed on what the community will benefit in terms of development and some slots that would benefit the whole community opposed to the current regime where only individuals have benefited.
“We went and met with Speaker but we never asked for the Deputy Governor’s slot because for the last five years we had the slot that gained us nothing but we agreed on some slots and development projects in our Constituency geared towards improving the lives of our people who have suffered for a long time,” he noted
He assured the community that they never went to meet Senate Speaker for their personal gains but for the better of the whole community and appealed to them to support the Speaker’s bid for the benefits that as a council agreed with him.
The trustee of the TACUSO leadership Alfred Nakitare said they decided to join the Lusaka led team and Kenya Kwanza coalition because they have a better agenda for the common mwananchi and the country at large.
He asked Webuye East electorates to support the Speaker’s bid saying they stand to get more development projects and slots in the County government.
The women league who sits in the TACUSO leadership led by Mrs. Pascal Makhakha applauded Speaker Lusaka for having nominated their fellow woman as his running mate, Mrs. Jennifer Mbatiany from Mount Elgon and vowed to support the duo and will walk from village to village to drum up support for the Speaker and asked all women to join them in making the dream be true.
