A Friends church of light bishop is nursing serious machete injuries he sustained after he was attacked by a resident at Number one village, Kongoni location in Likuyani Sub County after he was nabbed attempting to set the resident’s house ablaze in the wee hours
of the night while naked.
According to Mr. Evans Maombo alias Tindikiti he saw a nude man running from the gate and before he knew it, the stranger had set ablaze his fence made of dry maize stalks. “Minutes earlier, my toilet had gone up in flames, I sensed danger and decided to keep watch, armed with a panga,” said Maombo, arguing the suspect almost set him ablaze together with his wife and three children in their house.
He said the 75year old cleric, a respected elder in the village and a member of ‘nyumba kumi’ policing group returned at around 3.00am and again set his house on fire and fled away.
“He took off after realizing I had spotted him but he couldn’t run too far and he fell, while attempting to escape. I hit him with the machete on the shoulder,” explained Maombo, adding that the decision to keep vigil through the night was instinctive. He noted the bishop’s dreadlocks after he had pinned him down.
Villagers responded to Maombo’s distress call but were dumbfounded to discover the priest lying on the ground naked with black gumboots.
The man of cloth who lives about 300 meters away from Maombo’s compound was later taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where he is recuperating.
Area senior assistant chief Wycliffe Masinde led a team of security officers to the scene and promised a thorough investigation will be carried out.
