After murdering two boda boda riders and assaulting a couple in Turbo (Uasin Gishu), Kipkarren and Makutano (Kakamega) markets respectively, a gang that remains mysterious, shifted its notorious activities to Likuyani Sub County.
Confirmed reports indicate Mr. Francis Babu, succumbed to injuries inflicted by the hitherto unestablished gang at about 3pm.
“We have confirmed the death of Babu while in the hands of two muggers,” Likuyani location chief, Mr. Charles Banda told West Media.
According to Banda, the muggers boarded the deceased’s motorcycle but changed tact later.
“However, the purported passengers hijacked Babu and stabbed him several times using a sharp object before they disappeared with his motorcycle,” explained Banda, adding the motorbike was Boxer 150 in make and registered as KMDW 589T.
The victim’s body was moved to Kitale County General Hospital mortuary.
With increasing incidents of boda boda riders being attacked, the local administrator has reiterated the appeal to operators from both Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties to take precautionary measures while on duty.
“Since gangs targeting the boda boda industry have changed tact in executing their criminal activities, we urge the riders to be extra vigilant and careful,” said Banda.
The chief told boda boda operators to be wary of violent robbers, who he said were now executing their robbery activities during the day unlike previously when they used to operate at night.
He, however, blamed the operators for not heeding to traffic and security officers directives, warning them against carrying more than one passenger.
“Most of the incidents that have occurred can be attributed to the failure by boda boda riders to observe basic and important traffic rules, especially the one restricting the number of passengers per trip,” observed the administrator who was flanked by his assistant Mrs. Diana Owano.
Security organs have launched investigations into the incident, with most of the locals living along the border between the counties linking the current spate of murder and robbery activity to an elaborate syndicate.
