Boda boda operators in Lugari sub county have been advised to form groups that will enable them save their shares and participate in development projects.
Speaking at Lumani market in Kulumbeni sub location during the launch of Public Address system bought by Kulumbeni boda boda Association (KUBOA) the group’s chairman Mr. Patrick Munala urged all boda boda operators to think wider and broaden their income generating avenues other than just relying on the little they get from carrying passengers daily.
He advised them to stop the tenancy of living a hand to mouth life but invest in worthwhile projects.
He said his KUBOA group had managed to buy two-hundred-seater tents which were earning them good money through hiring them out and with addition of the Public Address System the income was set to rise.
Apart from the tents and address system Munala said the group was also offering outside catering services with qualified staffs.
“We thought it was wise to incorporate our wives in the group by starting a catering department which is doing so well because some of them have trained in catering,” said Munala.
He said for the last six years they have been able to take their children to school without any problem because of the income they get from their projects.
Munala disclosed that the group has a plan to buy a vehicle by next year.
Speaking during the function Martin Juma who represented the guest of honor Mr. Brian Liseche lauded Kulumbeni boda boda for their unity and vision to develop the area.
“It is so rare to get boda boda who are committed to their work and development oriented like this one,” said Juma who gave a donation of Kshs. 5000 from Mr. Liseche. Juma advised other boda bodas to emulate the group.
