Boda boda operators from Tongaren constituency have threatened to stage a demonstration following the poor state of a number of impassable roads, which they claim to be hampering their daily operation as they strive to provide basic needs to their families.
Led by Hanghtone Wafula, Chairperson Nasianda Boda boda stage, the irritated youths complained over the poor state of road networks across the constituency especially during the ongoing heavy rains, stating how the poor infrastructure has been affecting them.
They however threatened to stage a demonstration in a weeks’ time to protest over the poor roads among other public utilities in poor conditions, if the authorities and responsible leaders do not take action. The protest will however come with barricading the impassable roads and dig a big trench in the middle of the road until when an action will be taken.
Naitiri, Brigadier road under the County government of Bungoma is among the major roads in poor conditions among other managed by the National government CDF. The riders noted that Misikhu- Brigadier road has been launched more than four times but no mechanism has been put in place to ensure it is tarmacked.
Before the General elections, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure James Macharia together with his counterpart for Defence Eugine Wamalwa and former Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati launched Misikhu-Brigadier road to be tamarkced but since then, the boda boda operators claim no action has so far been taken to improve infrastructure across the constituency.
The operators urged Governor Kenneth Lusaka to work in hand with Tongaren Member of Parliament elect Dr. John Murumba Chikati to adhere to their manifesto during the campaign, and improve public utilities in Tongaren together with quality service delivery.
As scarcity of job opportunities among the youths continue to be a nationwide problem that may take a number of decades to offer long term solutions, the irritated boda boda operators asked the elected leaders in the past General elections to put in place measures that would create more job opportunities for the youth.
