Kimilili; Angry bodaboda operators in Maeni ward planted maize seedlings and banana suckers along the Kimilili – Sikhendu road to express their anger over its poor state as they called for their leaders to push for a quick intervention to rehabilitate the road.
The operators complained that the County government allocated a huge sum of money to rehabilitate the road but the contractor did a shoddy work which further deteriorated the state of the road an issue that has affected transport services.
They called upon the area MCA Florence Wekesa to help them address the issue through to the county government saying as tax payers they should not be subjected to torture in their daily efforts of making ends meet as they have a right to better services from government.
“It is even a problem to transport a sick person to a nearby hospital as the roads are impassable and we sometimes fall in mud and dirty water on the road so our leaders should come and help us address the issue immediately” said an angry bodaboda operator
Area political activist Pius Ndumba blamed inexperienced contractors as the cause of poor road construction saying contracts should be awarded to experienced people in the field to perform a recommendable work to avoid such mishaps.
He added that the area is rich in agricultural produces and farmers’ efforts to transport their produce to the market have been crippled due to the poor state of roads calling upon the Bungoma County governor Ken Lusaka to provide a solution to the problem.
“The emergency kitty set aside to deal with disaster caused by El Niño rains should be
rolled down to help in such issues as people at the grass root who drive the economy of the county through different sectors need to be provided a suitable environment to carry out their daily activities” he said
