The body of a 14-year-old girl who drowned five days ago in River Nzoia in Musabale village Sitikho sub location, Webuye West Constituency in Bungoma County has been found.
Confirming the incident, the area assistant chief John Wafula Murutu said that the girl met her death when she had gone to harvest sand and bathe in River Nzoia.
“We have frantically searched for her body with the help of our local divers but now we thank God we found it. We are preparing for her burial immediately,” explained Chief Murutu
However, he urged parents to be vigilant and be close to their children during this Coronavirus pandemic period as they still wait for schools to re-open and further warned residents who live near rivers to desist from the habit of walking along the river banks or allowing their children to play near rivers.
“As children are at home due to closure of schools because of the Coronavirus, parents, it is your duty to know where your children are, who they are with and what they are doing. Children are loitering up and down, and some are walking during the night, let me assure you that when we’ll get them they will be quarantined for breaking the curfew law,” he affirmed.
