Grief has gripped Kipsangui village in Sango sub location, Likuyani sub county after body of a 47 year old man was discovered floating on water in Kipsangui stream.
Confirming the incident Sango sub location assistant chief Mrs. Frida Lusweti Shirengo said the deceased Saul Munandi who is a resident of Mapera village in the neighboring Mawe Tatu sub location was reported missing on Monday before his body was discovered in the stream on Thursday afternoon.
She said Munandi who was a casual laborer has been working on one of the resident’s farm in Lukusi village but never returned home on Monday.
The administrator said following the collapsing of Bukayani and Shiroko bridges that connect Sango and Mawe Tatu sub locations it is suspected that the deceased attempted to cross the stream before he drowned.
“The body was found stuck between rocks where Bukayani bridge was swept clear, an indication that he tried crossing before he slipped into the water,” said Mrs. Shirengo.
The family requested to be allowed to bury the body, citing no complaints in the manner of his death. Mrs. Shirengo has urged residents to be more careful during this heavy rains season and to not risk their lives by attempting to cross through the flooded streams in the area.
She instead advised them to seek shelter in police patrol bases in the area where they can spend the night safely and proceed with their journey in the morning.
“We have Sango and Kogo patrol base here in Sango and also Mawe Tatu patrol base across in Mawe Tatu sub location, we are advising our people instead of risking their lives by crossing through the swollen rivers we have friendly police officers in those patrol bases who will offer them a place to sleep,” said Mrs. Shirengo.
