Police in Likuyani have launched investigations into the incident where the body of a 90 year old granny was discovered in a well in Makokha village, Kongoni location, Likuyani Sub County under unclear circumstances.
According to the area chief Peter Lugano, the granny Julia Isiche has been living with one of her granddaughters and she left the house suspected to answer a call of nature Monday night but never returned before her body was discovered in the well Tuesday mid-morning.
“The old woman used to sleep with her granddaughter but at night the young girl narrated that she went outside maybe to relieve herself but she didn’t come back so in the morning when the girl woke up to prepare for school she discovered that the door had been locked from outside hence she was unable to get outside which raised attention of her mother who went and opened the door for her,” said Lugano.
He said the young girl narrated to the mother that her grandmother was missing and later informed the neighbors about her disappearance.
In the process a neighbor passing by informed them that she had seen something floating in the well in the neighborhood and when they went to check in the well they discovered that it was the body of the missing grandmother.
The body was removed from the well by officers from Matunda police station and taken to Chereng’any mortuary in the neighbouring Trans Nzoia County for postmortem to establish the cause of her death.
Confirming the incident, Likuyani Sub County police Commander Charles Muthui has played off reports by a section of residents that the granny might have been raped before being killed and her body dumped in the well.
Muthui said the body had no physical injuries and they were treating it as a drowning incident.
