Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has said police suspect the attack at the Dusit Complex at 14 Riverside could be a terrorist attack and has insinuated more information will be divulged later. Addressing the press at Jogoo House, Boinnet said at about 3 pm, a group of unknown armed assailants attacked the Dusit complex and emergency services responded quickly to the incident, “We immediately cordoned off the area. The situation is being managed and we have made evacuation of many people in the complex and the operation is still going on as we speak,” he said.
He said there are still could be armed criminals still holed in the buildings, “Special forces are engaged in that operation to flush them out,” he said. He noted that there are injuries and the authorities are in the process of confirming the nature and the type of injuries. He has urged Kenyans to remain calm and cooperate with instructions given by security agencies, and that all the critical infrastructure, as well as battle installation, remain on guard following a successful vigilance period throughout the festive period.
