The premier livestock show, the Brookside Livestock Breeders Show and Sale (BLBSS) has kicked off in Nairobi’s Jamhuri park.
The Livestock Breeders Show Trust was set up in 2004 as a Charity to handle the surplus income, if any, generated from the events organized by the Livestock Breeders Shows and Sale Committee.
The Show and Sale is organized by the Livestock Show Trust, which is made up of various livestock breed societies together with Brookside Dairy Limited. It provides networking and opportunities on better breeds and principles of good herd management to improve their stock.
Slightly different from the Agricultural Show of Kenya held across the country in different counties, the livestock breeders show and sale feature animals only.
Apart from providing farmers with a forum to showcase their best and exchange ideas, the forum also highlights the relevance of the livestock industry to the local economy.
Brookside Livestock Breeders Show and Sale is the main event in East and Central Africa where superior breeds are placed on display. The show attracts participation of small scale and large scale regional livestock farmers, experts in animal health, input suppliers, Government agencies to name a few.
The Brookside livestock breeders show has brought together stakeholders in the livestock farming and dairy industry.
The show according to organizers puts Kenya on the map of the world attracting interest from different countries. Breeders from other countries are already showing interest in Kenya livestock breeds.
Key among the exhibitors is FMD east Africa the number one seller of Massey Ferguson tractors.
“We are here to showcase what we have ranging from tractors, fertilizer applicators,” said Lucy Mukuru FMD East Africa sales and marketing manager.
“We Carter for the farmer and we are here for the them” she added.
“We also have tractors for upcoming or small scale farmers like the MF 35,” qupped Lucy.
During the event the company is also selling tractors and other farm equipment at a reduced price.
“We are giving huge discounts on our tractors and farm equipment as a way of thanking and caring for the farmer,” she remarked.
The show runs from Thursday to Saturday.
Security has been tightened for the success of the event.
