Children have been urged to take care of their ageing parents as a way of tapping God’s blessings instead of neglecting them and letting them spell curses in their lives.
This comes after one old man Maurice Makokha from Madende village, Nambale Sub County in Busia County was thrown by a boda boda near the Bungoma police station.
Daneah Lydia Simiyu, a government officer in Bungoma County who identified the old man groaning in pain and feeling cold almost rammed on by a passing vehicle, said she was moved by the incident and got interested to know what had happened to the old man on her way to work.
Moving closer she tried talking to him but could not communicate due to language barrier as the old man was speaking Samia while her Bukusu could not match.
She finally narrated the ordeal to her colleague Dorothy Opili who understood the language chipped in and managed to get his area chief.
Dorothy says the only thing the old man could remember was his name, his clan, chief and his home. She had to call one of her in-law who helped them trace the number of the area chief who finally called his people.
They say they took his photos that were sent and enabled them trace the whole family, one of them citing that the old man got lost long time ago from the home following the frustrations from his close family.
They say the old man lamented being beaten and going through harsh environment to an extent of even getting food being a problem.
Daneah says when she met the old man he was holding a ten shilling coin and couldn’t let it go with a piece of mandazi in his pocket that he stuck too without uttering a word.
The two officers have urged youth and other people to embrace the spirit of loving their parents by taking good care of them as commanded by the bible to live longer.
They say it’s so embarrassing such an old man with children to have neglected and left him undergo frustrations when they can utilize the opportunity to tap blessings.
They have also urged the County government to set aside a rescue centre for old men who cannot bear the challenges in their homes who are oppressed by their relatives to nurse them and bring back their hope of living longer.
They can also engage guiding and counselling sessions to keep the generation
