Nzoia Region’s Bukembe Secondary School succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Lake Region’s Barding High School in their first match of the ongoing Kenya Secondary School’s Airtel Rising Stars ball games in Kisumu County.
The Siaya County side to the lead in the 15th minute courtesy of a Buka Ziko goal before Osiambo Ben added a second towards the end of the match played at the Moi Stadium artificial turf.
The Bungoma County side will take on Kathungi and then Cheptenye in their other pool matches slated for later today –August 3rd 2016.
In the other pool match of the opening day, Kathungi of the Highlands region saw off Cheptenye 2-0, courtesy of Leja Rashid and Rashid Salim goals.
In the girls’ category, Nzoia region representatives Wiyeta girls carried the region shoulder high when they walloped Itigo 3-0, while Nyakach girls had a light day against Kirigara brushing them aside 4-0.
Nyakach led 1-0 through Mercy Airo, Velma Juma made it 2-0, before Airo completed her brace with her second with a Kirigara own goal rounding up the thrashing.
Nginda girls beat Olympic 2-0 as Coast Region’s St John’s Kaloleni defeated Sindo 2-0 in other girls’ matches.
National boys’ volleyball champions Malava, representing Nzoia region in the quest to defend the title, were 3-0 sets winners against Northern, while Cheptil saw off Hospital Hill with the same set margin.
In the girls field, Lugulu girls’ volleyball team ran out 3-0 set winners against Isega as Soweto emerged 3-0 set winners against defending champs Kosirai.
The competition pitting eight different regions across the country will come to a conclusion on Saturday 6th August 2016 with each category winner representing the country at the East and Central African Competition to be held in Eldoret starting 25th August 2016.
