Bukusus who reside in Webuye East Constituency have lamented bitterly of being sidelined by the Bungoma County government in terms of jobs and bursaries.
Addressing the press in Maraka ward in Webuye East Constituency after conducting elections of Bukusu elders of the Sub County led by Mzee Nato Simiyu, said for a long time Bukusus living in Webuye East Constituency have been taken for a ride and they rarely get meaningful services from the County government having been dominated by Tachonis.
“We have lived here for a long time and some of us were born here but they way we are being handled by the County government isn’t good because our governor Wycliffe Wangamati whom we voted for overwhelm has been misled to think that Webuye East Constituency has only Tachonis and anytime he calls for an engagement meeting with the people from the Constituency only Tachonis are chosen and this has made us to lose a lot of services because no one represents our issues to the governor,” said Mzee Nato Simiyu.
He says bursaries are given selectively and most of their children always miss the government support just because they are Bukusus and this has affected them so badly.
“We are not visitors anymore and we must be taken with the seriousness that we deserve because this is our home and therefore we must be given services just like any other Kenyan without being tribal at all,” said another elder.
They say their plans to meet the governor have always been futile and they have no otherwise than looking for engagement with another leader who will address their tribulations.
They have vowed not to support the current regime if it will turn a deaf ear to their the challenges pitying them saying they have numbers in the Sub County according to population and want to be recognized fully in terms of employment and appointment from the County government of Bungoma which has neglected them for some time.
However, they called for peaceful campaigns before, during and after elections, youths being asked to be careful and avoid being used by greedy politicians.
They have vowed as a council of elders to move across the three wards of Webuye East Constituency to sensitize people about peace and co- existing so that after 9th August people can still continue working together in harmony.
