The Senate has been urged to reach a consensus on the Revenue Allocation stalemate to ensure development in the Counties doesn’t stall.
Speaking on Mumbo FM on Wednesday during Kemumbo programme, Bungoma County Assembly majority leader, who is also the Member of the County Assembly of Tuuti- Marakaru ward, Joseph Juma Nyongesa said that the CRA stalemate has delayed development across the country as he urged the executive to increase the percentage of money allocated to Counties since the national government remains with a high percentage.
“It is my appeal to Senators to solve their differences on County Revenue Allocation so that they may enable Counties to continue with progress. As Counties we are really suffering,” said Nyongesa.
Tuuti-Marakaru MCA was against sentiments made by Council of Governors Chairperson and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who said that if the Senate will not agree on the Revenue Allocation debate then they will be forced to close down County operations and release workers on leave. He termed that failing as a leader and urged Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati not to follow suit.
“There is no way Counties can close down just because money has been delayed, Governor Oparanya should be above such sentiments. He is showing a sign of incompetence as a leader, this shows how he has failed to plan,” he stated.
The majority leader further urged Governor Wangamati not to lead the line of people who are calling for the leasing on Nzoia Sugar Company, and instead work towards reclaiming Panpaper as he promised during his campaigns.
He assured Bungoma residents that as the County Assembly they will play their role of oversight to ensure that all residents benefit from development as laid out by the County government.
He revealed that the bad blood that has been there between the County Assembly and Governor Wangamati has ended, and that all the fuss was because of the interests of the common mwananchi.
“As the County Assembly of Bungoma we have decided to bury the hatchet with the County Government for the progress of our people. Therefore I would like to assure all Bungoma residents to expect more development from the County Government,” he said.
