Boda boda operators within Bungoma town have complained on the measures issued by the government following the Forest Road Nairobi incident.
They have said that the law should have been enforced on the rogue operators of Forest road instead of dragging to boda boda operators countrywide.
Charles Wafula, the chairman of boda boda operators at Bungoma County Referral hospital stage urged boda boda operators to behave accordingly and not to take matters into their hands in case they get involved in an accident.
“Boda boda operators have know-how on traffic rules hence adhere to them, in case of an accident report the incident to the police and leave everything to the authority,” Charles Wafula said.
He also cited that the government is not being fair on boda boda operators, adding that they should have only dealt with the parties involved instead of imposing tough rules to the whole sector.
This comes after tough rules were imposed on boda boda operators after the incident at Forest Road where they sexually assaulted a lady driver over allegedly hitting a motorcycle.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i ssued a directive on 9th March, 2022 during a consultative meeting with the riders at KICC that all boda boda operators need to be registered in Saccos and have a smart rider’s license within sixty days.
A certificate will also have to be issued to a member of every Sacco. This will help the government to identify any boda boda operator who takes part in crime.
He also issued a stern warning against those who will not comply saying that they will not be allowed to operate without meeting the set requirements.
The Head of State announced a nationwide crackdown on boda boda operators where they need to be re-registered among other rules.
