Bungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti has said all students in the County must report back to school on January 4th, in accordance with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive. He said as the County commissioner, he has bene tasked with ensuring that each student reports to school, and to provide a detailed record to prove the same.
His sentiments come even as schools are still unprepared to handle the reopening next week, with infrastructure still inadequate, and tools to facilitate observance of the Covid-19 infection prevention guidelines scarce. “As a County commissioner I’ve been told that every child from Bungoma must be back in school. In the evening I must report how many children went to school and how many are still at home.”
He said the chiefs and assistant chiefs are in a better position to ensure all children go back to school, since they can interact directly with the parents. “We don’t want children from other Counties to go back to school, and those in Bungoma to be stuck in the villages,” he stated.
