Bungoma County woman representative Catherine Wambilianga has weighed in on the Chwele market fiasco which led to arrest of area MCA Barasa Mukhongo saying the County government leadership should embrace dialogue to sort out issues. Speaking at Lunao in Bumula constituency, Wambilianga said the issues raised by the MCA were genuine, which included the market being filthy and lacking toilets, yet the County government wanted to collect taxes.
She also brought to mind the promises made during the campaign period saying the Bungoma Governor said the small business operators will be exempted from paying taxes. She added that the County government should work hard to ensure the market is in a good state so as to genuinely collect taxes saying as per now it is in a pathetic state that does not even warrant any tax collection as expressed by the MCA. On Monday the situation at the market escalated leading to demonstration and firing of teargas canisters from police and residents who were expressing their displeasure over the issue. Wambilianga in her address to Bumula women called upon them to form groups that will enable them to access funds from different kitties from the government to start up development projects. She presented a posho mill to the women group after previously presenting to other groups.
