Bungoma County governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka has issued a two-month ultimatum to his Committee Executive Committee Members and their respective chief officers who are not up to the task in service delivery to up their game or risk being sent home.

In a public scrutiny meeting of the County government’s service delivery held at Mbakalo market that involved residents from the six wards of Tongaren sub-County governor, Lusaka said every officer in his government earns a salary and therefore has to deliver according to the expectations of the electorates saying he will not be held liable for failures.

He said the County assembly through the budget committee always has a task of allocating money to various projects prioritized to help the people of Bungoma County and the executives mandated for implementation, therefore, must make sure the projects are established on the ground.

Governor Lusaka said that as the first governor of Bungoma County he is keen to ensure that in the spirit of devolution, the livelihood of Bungoma County residents is improved saying with a mutual working relationship with the national government, they are aiming to have more projects implemented to help the electorates.

Some of the pertinent issues raised during the meeting included the poor road network in the region especially during the rainy season as the residents put to task the roads Cec Stephen Nendela saying they should be rehabilitated regularly to ease transport.

Mbakalo residents expressed concern over the delayed opening of market stalls built by the County government saying they were complete a long time ago yet business operators have not been given stalls to start operating their businesses from.

The residents also called upon the County government to increase the number of bags of free fertilizer as well as the subsidized one delivered to every ward saying it will help improve the yields of the residents who mostly depend on farming to cater for their needs.

Bungoma County public administration chief officer David Kibiti said the exercise will be carried out in all the nine constituencies of the County so as to give an opportunity to the residents to find out the service delivery status of the various departments of the County government.

He, therefore, called upon residents to turn up in large numbers to participate in the hearings so as to be informed and not bow to political propaganda’s spread by people from other factions.
