Bungoma County government under the leadership of Governor Kenneth Lusaka has been challenged to purchase shares in the recently sold Rai Paper Mills in Webuye to enable residents of Bungoma County to have a sense belonging to the company.
Addressing residents at various stopovers in Tongaren constituency Chrispus Wamoyo, a Senatorial candidate on an independent ticket in Bungoma County, said the current Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula should’ve been on the forefront pushing the County government to purchase the company saying buying shares will be a redeemer.
He said if elected he will present a bill in the Senate to have the Bungoma County government purchase fifty percent of the shares in the company saying it will be an opportunity for residents to have a sense of ownership in the company.
He added that together with other like-minded candidates seeking leadership under the independent candidature they are looking forward to transforming the lives of Bungoma County residents saying they have for a long time not benefitted from good leadership.
“The spirit of devolution was to ensure resources get down to the grassroots level an issue that has not been achieved by the leaders who are currently in office, therefore, there is a need to change so that all the residents benefit equally,” he added.
Mr. Wamoyo who at one time served as a mayor in the defunct Webuye municipal council blamed a lack of cooperation between Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and Senator Moses Wetangula for the lack of development in the County during their terms in office.
He was accompanied by gubernatorial aspirant Jimmy Nduruchi and Woman representative aspirant Kellan Wabomba, Webuye West aspirant Vitalis Musebe among others who called upon the residents to vote them in the August polls so as to positively transform the County.
