The Bungoma County government has received personal protective equipments from the Equity Bank in the spirit of helping out in the fight against Coronavirus. Presenting the PPEs to the County government in Webuye hospital, the Equity Bank CCO Polycarp Igathe said the Bank had contributed more than Kshs 11 billion to help some County governments especially those more susceptible to Covid-19 infections and Bungoma, specifically Webuye, was identified as being in a strategic northern corridor location heading towards the Kenya-Uganda border.
Igathe sympathised with the medical staff but applauded and appreciated the good work they are doing in helping the victims saying many of them are recovering which shows the good work being done by the doctors, nurses and the support staff, “The medical staff are doing a good job, making sure that our patients who are infected with the Coronavirus get well even when they know they are risking their lives and staying away from their families. When they are done, they still have to quarantine for 14 days before meeting their families and this is what we call sacrifice and as a bank or a government we don’t have enough to thank you.”
Receiving the equipment from Igathe on behalf of the County government, deputy governor Prof. Charles Ngome Kibanani appreciated the good gesture from Equity Bank saying it will go a long way to help the medics who are going through tough times due to lack of equipment. Ngome requested the Bank to partner with the County to set up an ICU unit at Webuye County hospital, noting that the facility serves three Counties, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega and Bungoma, making it a vital facility.
He further urged the Bank to open other branches in Webuye town, Kimilili and Chwele towns. Dr. Anthony Walela, who is the Bungoma Health CEC, applauded the Bungoma County health staff for doing excellent job, saying none of the 20 patients admitted in Webuye health centre, which is a Covid-19 isolation centre and Webuye KMTC have died. He lauded the Equity Bank for the vital support, terming it as timely. He assured health workers they’ll be provided with the best environment to continue their work.
