Students who benefit from Bungoma county governments scholarship have been urged to put in more effort in their learning as they have an opportunity to do so given that their fees is fully paid by the county government in national and extra county schools.
Addressing the students who benefit from the same from Mihuu ward in Webuye East sub county in Sipala Friends church , a meeting that brought together 40 students and their parents, guardians and counselors, Mihuu ward administrator Mr. Samson Nabutola implored on those students to put in more effort as they have an advantage against others as they went to national schools of their choice and they have an assurance of not being sent home for fees because the county has already taken care of it.
He added that as a ward they have been having such functions every time schools close to assess the performance of the scholarship beneficiaries before schools open in order to address challenges that they go through that could deter their otherwise good performance in schools, confirming that such meeting has bore fruits as their performance has improved from the last term if their report cards is anything to go by.
He said out of the forty students who benefit from the scholarship from Mihuu ward only two got less than C+ as a mean grade owing to challenges they go through sometimes at home and schools and said they plan to share it with the Ministry of Education to make sure that they find ways of helping them out to make sure they perform well academically in future.
Nabutola however, urged them to continue working hard in school regardless of few challenges they go through so in future they can be great people and come back and help the community as they have also been assisted by the county government through the stewardship of his excellence Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati whom he applauded for starting such program that is aimed at supporting students from the less privileged families across the entire county.
His sentiments were echoed by Lutacho primary school deputy head teacher Mr. Mark Wanjala who said the performance is promising and appealed for the students to keep working harder given that they have given rare golden chance and must utilize it for the four years that they will be in secondary schools and give the county government of Bungoma and their families best grades that will make them get admission in different universities and choose the best courses like Engineering, Medical among others that have been taken by students from other counties.
Bishop Kennedy Wesonga of Gateway ministries Lugulu who addressed the students applauded the governor for the good gesture towards the less privileged families for such a vision which will uplift the human resource saying its only through education that human resource can be uplifted and appealed the students to keep shining adding that there is no remedy for achieving than working hard and being disciplined adding that the church will keep on praying for them for good healthy having confidence that the Covid-19 will end soon.
Wesonga urged parents to provide basic needs for their children as they go back to schools, especially girls so that they can pay attention in classes and he insisted on them to make sure that they provide enough masks and sanitizers in order to help their children not be affected by the Corona Virus.
Students led by Racheal Wamalwa and Collins Wekesa also appreciated the governor for his kind gesture towards them and promised to work hard and attain their goals in life and come back to assist the community in different ways.
