As the planting season approaches farmers in Bungoma County have been assured of getting farm inputs that include fertiliser and seedlings on time in a move that will enhance the County’s food security in the long run.
Bungoma County agriculture CEC Mathews Makanda called upon farmers to prepare their farms as early as now saying the subsidized fertiliser will retail at Kshs 1800 saying the seedlings will also be availed on time.
He disclosed that the vulnerable totalling to 750 per ward will get free fertilizer and a seedling saying the County government is aiming at enabling farmers to practice agribusiness saying with the fertile land across the county residents have an opportunity to be rich.
“We are partnering with other different organisations in empowering farmers in different fields to enable them to enjoy a bumper harvest,” he said.
He was speaking after officially opening a workshop of agricultural field officers from Bungoma and Kakamega Counties at Mabanga who were being trained on methods of taking care of plants and how to deal with diseases that may attack them.
