More than seventeen thousand farmers in Bungoma County are a happy lot after receiving free fertilizer from the County government of Bungoma. Speaking during the launch at Mbakalo, Tongaren constituency, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said the program is is meant to ensure the County is food secure.
He said over six hundred farmers from vulnerable backgrounds in each of the 45 wards benefited by getting fertilizer and seedlings. However he said he received complains of lack of transparency during the vetting process saying some officers were forwarding names of people who don’t deserve saying he will revisit.
Bungoma County Agriculture CEC Mathews Makanda said the program which is meant to empower the residents will be implemented to the fullest. He said having procured the fertilizer from Baraka company starting last year, the yields are in plenty for farmers in the County.
