Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has lauded the idea of setting up an industrial park in the County. Speaking to members of the County Assembly, Governor Wangamati said the setting up of an industrial park will benefit many people. The park is to be situated in Webuye, due to its proximity to a highway linking other nations in the region. “We’ll make decisions that benefit not the few but the majority,” he said.
He added that the beneficiaries of the industrial park will be in excess of 10,000. “So let’s not be afraid of making those decisions that we need to make,” he said. If successfully set up, the industrial park is set to open up the County to business opportunities and present investment chances to business people, especially when it comes to making use of the County’s agricultural and trade potential. The County government is set to provide 102 acres of land to investors and other vital infrastructure.
The Governor had already brought up the idea and has focused on it as an important target in his tenure. Several meetings have been held to advance the plan, and on the sidelines of the Blue Economy Conference last year, the Governor held discussions with Uganda President Yoweri Museveni on different issues including the industrial park.
