Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has lauded the county’s sports teams for their outstanding performance at the recently concluded Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games, held in Kakamega County.
The five-day event saw Bungoma’s ladies’ volleyball team make a remarkable run to the finals, where they finished as runners-up after a tough 4-1 defeat to Uasin Gishu County. Despite the loss, the team exhibited exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination, earning praise from their Governor for representing the county with pride.
Speaking after the event at Booker Academy Secondary School, Governor Lusaka expressed his admiration for the athletes. “You played exceptionally well, and while the best teams emerged as winners, your effort and commitment have been outstanding,” he said, acknowledging the challenges they faced, including competing without adequate allowances.
The Governor also emphasized his commitment to ensuring better support for the athletes in the future, particularly in addressing the issue of allowances. He explained that financial constraints had been caused by delayed disbursements from the national treasury, but assured the teams that such issues would be resolved to provide them with the resources they need.
“You have shown immense courage and determination, and we will work hard to ensure that the challenges you faced do not hinder your performance in future games,” Lusaka stated.
Sports, Gender, Youth, and Culture Executive Benedict Emachar, along with other senior county officials, were also present to congratulate the teams for their commendable performance, praising their dedication and the unity fostered during the games.
The KICOSCA games, which brought together counties from across Kenya, were not only a platform for athletic excellence but also a celebration of the diversity and talent present across the nation.
Governor Lusaka has called for continued teamwork and hard work as the county prepares for next year’s games, with hopes for an even stronger performance.
