The Bungoma County government is planning to build one stream in every national secondary school in the County to cater for students from the County who have scored good marks but haven’t been enrolled to good schools, according to Governor Wycliffe Wangamati. Speaking at Lugulu Girls High School during a fundraising, he said every national school within Bungoma County should have a stream for that purpose, as it has been noted that many enrolled students in the schools come from other Counties.

He said schools that are part of the plan include Lugulu Girls High School, Friends School Kamusinga, Kibabii Boys High School, Bungoma Boys High School aong others. Wangamati hinted that he’ll have a meeting with the elected leaders and stakeholders to find a way forward and to see the best way to approach the issue, and he urged leaders to discuss it.

He revealed that Lugulu Girls was the biggest beneficiary of the Governor’s scholarship, with the highest number of students receiving a full scholarship, He appealed to KCPE candidates to work hard in order to get the scholarships, but will mostly benefit those from poor families.

He emphasized that his government is keen on education matters and his office is ready to support every school to make sure that academic standards are uplifted, saying Bungoma used to be an academic giant and the time has come to go back to the drawing board to put things back in order. On the debate on the gender rule, Wangamati said his government has observed the gender rule, citing the ladies appointed as CECs in the County.
