A week ago, at the Ford Kenya Bungoma County headquarter during a meeting that brought together the party’s leadership, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said he’ll reward the party-through which he won his gubernatorial seat-any upcoming job opportunity under his administration in the County, to a party member, especially the village administration positions, a sentiment that didn’t go down well with many people who accused the Governor of favoritism and going against the country’s Constitutional stipulation.
Speaking in Misikhu, Engineer John Wenyaa, a former Kimilili parliamentary aspirant, faulted the Governor saying he shouldn’t have made such a statement, “That was a very reckless statement…Whether he was under pressure from party leaders or not. We all belong to Bungoma County and we have the right to apply for any job as long as one qualifies,” said Wenyaa. He said the statement won’t be taken lightly, and urged Governor Wangamati to copy the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta who debunked the notion that he hasn’t overseen development in Central Kenya by insisting he is the President of Kenya and he’ll take development to all the corners of the country, and that development is an equal right of every Kenyan whether they voted for him or not.
He urged the Governor to apologize to Bungoma residents, and gave him a one week ultimatum, adding that failure to apologize will lead to massive demonstrations in the sub counties. However the statement has been denounced by the Governor’s close associates, including Director of Communication Mr. Tim Machi and the Governor’s personal assistant Mr. Stanley Wepundi who said Wangamati’s statement was taken out of context.
