Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called on women across the county to join self-help groups and Saccos as a strategic pathway to economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Speaking during a function organized by the Mulembe Women Group at Bukembe Catholic Church grounds, Lusaka praised the group’s diligence and unity, emphasizing the transformative potential of organized women’s groups in driving grassroots development.
“Women’s empowerment remains one of the most powerful tools for societal transformation,” Lusaka remarked. “When we equip our women and youth with practical skills and the tools to support their ventures, we set the stage for long-term economic independence.”
During the event, the Mulembe Women Group received a cash donation from Governor Lusaka to facilitate the purchase of equipment for knitting, weaving, and peanut butter production activities aimed at promoting value addition and expanding local livelihoods.
Lusaka noted that his administration remains steadfast in supporting women and youth through targeted interventions that boost productivity and create income-generating opportunities. “We are not just making promises. We are rolling out tangible support to ensure our people can grow their businesses and improve their quality of life,” he said.
The Governor further encouraged women to tap into the County’s Women Empowerment Fund and Trade Loans, urging them to invest in group-based ventures that foster economic inclusion and resilience.
“By joining Saccos and self-help groups, you pool resources, access credit more easily, and gain collective bargaining power,” he noted, adding that such structures enhance financial literacy and business sustainability.
Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany, area MCA Hon. Caleb Wanjala, and several senior county officials attended the event, which is part of a broader countywide initiative to uplift marginalized populations through skills training and enterprise development.
Governor Lusaka’s administration has prioritized women and youth empowerment as a pillar of its development agenda, with continued investment in local industries, vocational training, and micro-enterprise support aimed at unlocking Bungoma’s economic potential from the grassroots up.
